French Heritage Program

Jeannie Ebert, Town of Cape Vincent Historian, will be displaying pictures of early Cape with brief write up’s at the Cape Vincent Library. Enjoy a walk-through of the past with photos mounted as a clean, concise display, featuring items of interest from the past, including some items of Canadian interest.

Thursday, July 6 @ 10 AM

Dr. Rush of Ft. Drum will be presenting “James LeRay and French Connections to Cape Vincent.” James LeRay and his son Vincent played a key role in the early development of Jefferson County, New York. As patriots and investors, they believed in the American cause, and they contributed their time, talent, and influential connections to encourage immigrants to settle and be successful not just in Cape Vincent but throughout Jefferson County and northern New York. As stewards of the LeRay Mansion, located on what is now Fort Drum, Dr. Rush and her team appreciate the opportunity to share the results of their further research into the LeRay family and their influence over our communities as we know them today.

Kevin Kieff will be presenting at St. Vincent de Paul’s Church, please gather at Kanady St. for a history of the church and brief walking tour of the early French burials in the cemetery.
